Responsibilities:
Provides psychiatric emergency services that will include: triage, crisis intervention and stabilization, referral and/or short term brief therapy for all consumers of mental health services (adult and children). Will be assigned to work with consumers who display more serious/difficult signs/symptoms of serious and persistent mental illness/serious emotional disturbances . It is essential that the staff work within a team framework, and demonstrate willingness to work with others. Staff will be able to correctly triage, assess (utilizing available assessment methods) and report to agency psychiatrist and other team members the consumer’s mental health status and planned course of action. Staff will develop and complete Intake Assessments, pre-plans and Individual Plans of Service, consistent with person centered planning guidelines, on children, adolescents, and adults requesting services from the MI Division on the date of service, or as scheduled. Such assessments will include obtaining and documenting all necessary information as mandated in the Case Recording Guidelines established by the Northern Affiliation. Will be an active member of the Children’s Diagnostic and Treatment Team. Other examples of service provision will include assessing treatment needs of consumers residing in the jails, providing brief therapy, facilitating weekly group therapy sessions for consumers with specific psychiatric disorders, etc. Demonstrates knowledge of universal precautions, standards of practice including but not limited to confidentiality and recipient rights, and emergency protocol. Demonstrate accurate assessment and diagnosis, utilizing the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association. This may also include utilization of mental status exam, Folstein Mini Mental State Exam, Geriatric Deprssion Scale, Beck Depression Inventory, Basis 32, CAFAS and other assessment tools as appropriate. Demonstrate effective case recording in accordance with Person Centered Planning, and the Northern Affiliation “Case Recording Guidelines”. Demonstrate an ability to provide emergent mental health services. Able to correctly triage consumers who are presenting for services. Collaborates with other staff in diagnosing problems and evaluating clients, as needed. Consults with various agencies, individuals and organizations. Actively participates as a member of the Children’s Diagnostic and Treatment Team, providing emergent assessment of families in crisis. Will keep current with certification requirements specific to this team. Will be efficient with regard to operating and completing Agency admission protocol, to include the correct operation of the telephone system, BHIS, Financial determinations and Release Authorization. Attends meeting as required or requested by the MI Services Director or his/her designee. Will demonstrate functional computer literacy in all agency documentation. Will be required to maintain highest degree of licensure or state registration specific to their position. Staff will be expected to participate in trainings aimed at the provision of services for consumers with co-occuring disorders. Provide crisis intervention to consumers as needed. Will participate in the agency’s emergency services on-call rotation.
Qualifications:
Masters Degree from a recognized or accredited institution with course work in mental health. Staff must be licensed as a LMSW in the state of Michigan
One or more years of relevant mental health crisis intervention/stabilization experience. Lived experience with mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders valued.
Ability to adequately participate in psychiatric emergency triage with emphasis on problem resolution, crisis stabilization, and utilization of “brief therapy” interventions. Good communication skills (both verbal and written are required.) Possess state registration/licensing consistent with qualifications and education. Functional computer literacy is required.
